Day 1: Arrive in Madaba

Upon arrival, a member of our staff will meet you at Queen Alia International Airport, assist you with visa and take you to your driver at the airport lobby then transfer to your hotel in Amman. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Via Mount Nebo to Mukawir

Distance / Duration: 68 km (42 miles) / 6 to 7 hours riding including stops
Total Ascent: 1090 m / Total Descent: 1070 m
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast this morning, we have time to assemble our bikes before setting off on the first stage of our unique mountain biking journey. Bike bags and boxes will be left in storage at the hotel for those bringing their own bikes. Riding straight from our hotel, we follow quiet back roads leading westwards to Mount Nebo. Reputedly the place from which Moses viewed the “Promised Land,” Mount Nebo offers a fantastic view across the Dead Sea and the Jordan River to the West Bank. On a clear day, it is even possible to see the holy city of Jerusalem, some 45 kilometres away.

Heading south from Mount Nebo, we follow a minor road between isolated farms to the village of Main, then join the King’s Highway (an ancient route linking Madaba with Petra, now a little-used local road). After a few kilometres, we drop onto a dirt track to Libb, then follow a narrow, hilly road westwards to the ruins of King Herod’s palace, where John the Baptist was imprisoned and beheaded. We stop to enjoy another striking panorama across the Dead Sea.

The ride ends at the village of Mukawir, where we stay in simple homestay accommodation run by the village cooperative. While basic, the food is excellent and the experience offers a fascinating glimpse into Jordanian family life.

Day 3: The Dead Sea and Karak Castle

Distance / Duration: 89 km (56 miles) / 9 hours riding including stops
Total Ascent: 1890 m / Total Descent: 1620 m
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Mukawir lies at around 800 metres, and today’s ride descends rapidly to the lowest point on earth: the Dead Sea, at 400 metres below sea level. We cycle along the shoreline to the Mujib Nature Reserve, where there is an opportunity to float in the incredibly buoyant salty waters.

Continuing south for around 20 kilometres, we reach a junction and begin a challenging 25-kilometre climb back to the Eastern Plateau at over 900 metres. A support vehicle is available if needed. On arrival in Karak, we visit the impressive Crusader fortress before checking into our hotel. The fort is a superb example of 12th-century Crusader architecture.

Day 4: Via Wadi Hasa to Dana Reserve

Distance / Duration: 87 km (55 miles) / 9 hours riding including stops
Total Ascent: 1830 m / Total Descent: 1750 m
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today’s ride follows the Eastern Plateau southwards. After a short transfer away from Karak traffic, we rejoin the King’s Highway, passing fields, ruins, and villages until reaching the edge of the Al Hasa Canyon. We descend into this dramatic wadi before tackling an 800-metre climb out.

After a picnic lunch, we continue south, bypassing Tafila on minor farm roads and steadily gaining altitude to around 1600 metres near Jabal Ata’ta. A final descent brings us to the village of Dana and our friendly hotel, on the edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve—Jordan’s largest protected area.

Day 5: Off-Road on the Eastern Plateau, Then Down to Wadi Musa

Distance / Duration: 69 km (43 miles) / 8 hours riding including stops
Total Ascent: 1435 m / Total Descent: 1670 m
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Dana village has been home to the Al Ata’ata tribe for 400 years. After exploring the village, we ride toward Shobak Castle, another major Crusader fortress built in 1115. Beyond the castle, a steep climb leads to an off-road track skirting the Eastern Plateau with magnificent views over Wadi Araba.

Rejoining the King’s Road, we descend into Wadi Musa—the “Valley of Moses”—gateway to Petra. We check into a comfortable hotel for two nights.

Day 6: Petra Sightseeing

Meals Included: Breakfast

A full day off the bikes to explore Petra. In the morning, an expert English-speaking guide accompanies us for 2–3 hours, after which you are free to explore independently. Walking through the siq to the Treasury is unforgettable, but it is only the beginning of this vast archaeological site. Petra’s Nabataean, Roman, and Byzantine monuments are set within one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in the Middle East.

A packed lunch is provided. Overnight in Wadi Musa.

Day 7: Petra to Wadi Rum Across the Desert

Distance / Duration: 91 km (57 miles) / 9 hours riding including stops
Total Ascent: 600 m / Total Descent: 1160 m
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After a short transfer to Rajif, we begin with a fast descent before heading off-road through dramatic desert landscapes toward Al Humaimah, an ancient stop on the Spice Route. After lunch, we cross the Desert Highway and continue toward Wadi Rum, where sandstone mountains rise dramatically from the desert floor.

Arriving at Rum Village, we transfer by 4WD into the heart of the Wadi Rum Protected Area. We stay overnight in a traditional Bedouin camp and enjoy a spectacular sunset and a traditional zarb dinner.

Day 8: Bike to Aqaba and Return Transfer to Madaba

Distance / Duration: 52 km (32 miles) / 3 to 4 hours riding including stops
Total Ascent: 95 m / Total Descent: 1020 m
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we begin our final ride across the western edge of Wadi Rum on desert trails before reaching the road to Aqaba. We cycle to the Red Sea, marking the end of this remarkable journey.

After lunch in Aqaba, we relax at South Beach for swimming or snorkeling before transferring back to Madaba in the late afternoon to repack our bikes.

Day 9: Depart from AMM Airport

Meals Included: Breakfast

A transfer will be provided from the hotel to Amman (AMM) Airport, approximately a 30-minute drive.

If you wish to extend your stay, such as additional time in Aqaba, please let us know. We wish you a safe journey home and hope to welcome you back to Jordan soon.
