Pick up from Amman and drive southwards to the Dana Nature Reserve. Meet the trek crew and trekking guide, then set off on a first-day walk (about 6 hours including a lunch stop). The walk from Dana to Feinan is essentially downhill, with the initial 800m (2650ft) descent in the first hour. After that, the route levels out for a gentle walk through a wide open valley flanked by the Dana Mountains. Arrive in Wadi Feinan and set up the first camp of the trip. Dinner and overnight.

After a hearty breakfast in the wild, set out early toward Ras Al Feyd. This is one of the more challenging yet rewarding stretches of the journey. The trail ascends through the Sharah Mountains, revealing spectacular views over Wadi Araba, a dramatic desert expanse stretching toward the horizon. Arrive at your campsite in Ras Al Feyd by late afternoon, where you can relax, sip traditional Bedouin tea, and enjoy sweeping mountain views at sunset.

Today’s route takes you into some of Jordan’s wildest and most remote terrain. Follow ancient shepherd trails along the Sharah Mountains through rugged black peaks and dramatic canyons. As you gradually ascend, desert views unfold below. Near Ghbour Whedat, the terrain softens into sandstone formations shaped by centuries of wind and time. After a lunch break, you will leave the solitude of the mountains behind and pass Bedouin camps, flocks of sheep, and small farms, offering glimpses into rural life in southern Jordan. Along the way, you will notice Nabataean remnants such as olive presses and aqueducts as you trek through soft sandstone canyons leading to Little Petra (Siq al-Barid), once a caravan rest stop along the Silk Road. After exploring the carved facades and narrow passages, relax at your Little Petra Cottage nearby.

Today is the grand finale of your trekking adventure: entering Petra through the “Back Door,” away from the main crowds. Descend through Wadi Ghurab, following ancient Nabataean paths carved into the sandstone mountains, to a hidden plateau revealing The Monastery (Ad Deir). After exploring, continue through Petra’s main archaeological area, passing tombs, temples, and the colonnaded street until you reach the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh). Take time to admire its intricate carvings before exiting through the narrow Siq canyon. Your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel in Petra. Dinner and overnight.
