This is the Biblical Yabesh of Gilead where the Prophet Elijah was reputedly born around 900 BC. It is a truly beautiful valley descending 20 Km from the forested uplands to the warmth of the Jordan Valley and offering some excellent walks and treks.

There is an ancient tell nearby from the period.

If you don’t get the opportunity to walk down this particularly scenic valley from its source high in the mountains, its worth walking up a short way from the Jordan Valley, especially in spring. Flowers are everywhere and there’s also plenty of birdlife with many large white egrets.
