Iraq Al-Amir- Qasr Al-Abd
Qasr Al- Abd is located in Iraq Al- Amir, 35 km west Amman. It dates back to the Hellenistic period - second century BD. The place was built by Hercanus during the reign of Seleucus IV. On top, the Palace is adorned with protruding statues of eagles and lions, some facing each other, others facing backward.
The Palace, which has a northern and southern entrance, is of two levels. The ground level was used as storage and quarters for guards, however the top level was not completed because Hercanus committed suicide before he got to finish building upon learning of the threats posed by Seleucus’ armies.
